Toledo City: Where Korean & Filipino Worlds Collide

A LOCAL EATERY REVIEW

If you like trying unique cuisines and happen to be on the west side of Cebu Island, head on over to Yummio or Knockbucks!

HISTORY

Both eateries are locally owned and known to the community as small family-run establishments. Glenn Lavina operates Yummio while his wife, Marichel, manages Knockbucks. Both of their children help at each location as needed. Their daughter, Chelsea, also helps with social media.

Why the names? “Yummio” is pretty straight forward. It came from the word “yummy.” Knockbucks, on the other hand, has an interesting story behind the name. It was supposed to be called “Knockbox” but there was already a coffee shop in Manila with the same name. They needed to come up with another name, so they chose “Knockbucks” instead.

When I asked Glenn why he decided to open the businesses, he said, “The first coffee shop to open in Toledo City was Knockbucks in 2017.” Meanwhile, Yummio has been open since the end of 2020.

CROWD FAVORITES

If you like Filipino cuisine with a hint of Korean fusion, both places have a variety of excellent dishes to choose from. The most popular food item is Sizzling Bulalo. If you are in the mood for a Korean meal, try the Kimchi Fried Rice or Beef Bulgogi. Drinks that are preferred by the locals are the Dark Mocha Frappe, Iced Caramel Macchiato, and Iced Mocha. My personal favorite is a mocha paired with a dark chocolate dessert.

DELIVERY WITHIN TOLEDO AVAILABLE FOR BOTH LOCATIONS!
